At the Health Sciences Institute we have always treated any such claim with a healthy dose of scepticism. That was until we came across one of the most powerful antioxidant formulations known to man - Active-H.
After four decades of research, American physicist Patrick Flanagan believes that Active H is the key to good health, longevity and boundless energy. Dr Flanagan has built on the pioneering work of another physicist, Dr Henry Coanda, from Romania, who spent 60 years studying the science of longevity.
Dr Coanda travelled extensively and identified five locations where people tended to age more slowly than in the rest of the world. In fact, people who live in these areas - which include Hunzaland in Northern Pakistan, the Vilcambamba in Equador, Georgia in Russia, and parts of Mongolia, and Peru - almost all live healthy and disease-free lives well after the age of 100!
HSI Panellists have reviewed Dr Coanda and Dr Flanagan's work and now we cannot wait to pass the good news of their remarkable findings on to you.
How the secret of living to a healthy old age appears to lie in the water
After identifying the five areas outlined above - which seemed to hold some kind of miraculous longevity powers - Dr Coanda spent much time with the people who lived there. He made a thorough analysis of their lives and lifestyles from birth onwards.
He noted that although the diets in each area varied greatly, the one factor they all had in common was the type of water they drank.
This water originated from ancient glaciers and on analysis was found to have a unique chemical composition. Dr Coanda concluded that this glacial water was responsible for the remarkable health and well-being of these long-living communities. He came to believe that water affects our health more than any other nutrient.
In the 1960s, at the age of 80, Dr Coanda passed on his findings to a young scientist, Patrick Flanagan, who continued analysing and identifying the properties of the glacial water.
Active-H contains the unique therapeutic properties found only in glacial water
The first thing that Patrick Flanagan discovered was that there were no mineral salts present in glacial water, unlike spring and well water.
However, on further analysis, Dr Flanagan found that the water did contain trace minerals - silica in particular - in a special colloidal (insoluble in water) form. Intriguingly, he also found large quantities of negatively ionised hydrogen atoms that he knew to be potent scavengers of damaging free radicals in the body. These hydrogen atoms are not found in ordinary water.
After four decades of research, Dr Flanagan was finally able to recreate, stabilise and amplify the properties of ancient glacial water into a supplement called Active-H.
Active H provides a powerful defence against harmful free radicals
The main active ingredient in Active-H is silica hydride, to which a large number of negatively charged hydrogen atoms have been bonded. It is this feature that makes the product such an incredible antioxidant.
In fact, according to Dr Flanagan, one capsule of Active-H has the same antioxidant capacity as 10,000 glasses of fresh, organic Vitamin C-rich orange juice.
Free radicals pose the greatest threat to our health and are the major cause of ageing and degenerative disease. They are formed in the body during normal metabolic processes but pollution, pesticides, cigarette smoke, alcohol, and fried and burnt foods massively increases our exposure to them. In fact, a human cell is subjected to 100,000 free radical hits per second.
As all HSI members know, antioxidants work by 'mopping up' free radicals. It has now been established that the silica-bonded hydrogen in Active-H works synergistically with other antioxidants. In doing this, it amplifies their impact on damaging free radicals.
Boost your energy levels, improve digestion and get more from your workouts
The hydrogen in Active H helps deliver oxygen to your cells and can dramatically increase sporting performance. When the need for oxygen in muscles exceeds the supply during exercise, lactic acid is produced. This results in pain and has a negative impact on endurance. Active-H has been shown to reduce the accumulation of lactic acid during heavy exercise 1.
Dr Flanagan has established that Active-H significantly increases the absorption of important nutrients. A healthily functioning digestive system will absorb about one-third of the nutrients presented to it. However, tests have shown that when Active-H is present, absorption increases to 100 per cent.
According to Dr Flanagan, this increased absorption is due to small quantities of Active-H which coat the surface of nutrient molecules, increasing the surface area thousands of times. This aids uptake by your blood, liver and cells.
In addition, Dr Flanagan has discovered why Active H appears to improve energy levels in those who suffer from chronic fatigue. Oxygen and hydrogen are combined with phosphates in the cells to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the principal source of energy in humans and animals. Active-H, being a source of hydrogen, has been found to increase the production of NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), which is the precursor of ATP.
What to take for best results
The recommended dose is one capsule of Active-H a day - take on an empty stomach with a large glass of water. This can be gradually increased to one capsule twice a day if desired.
Warning: Active-H increases the absorption of nutrients and medications so please talk to your GP before taking it. The dosage of your medication may need to be reduced. This is especially important if you are a diabetic on insulin.
