I am amazed at how few people investigate the various ways of lowering their cholesterol when it is so easy by buying the cheapest mineral MAGNESIUM which will do just that. Magnesium taken at a ratio of 2:1 with calcium will also help in stopping the transport of calcium to our brain cells i.e. prevent us from 'getting clogged up'! The millions taking statins to lower cholesterol are totally unaware of the many dangerous side-effects this drug has. If you visit www.spacedoc.com you will be horrified to read about the dangers of statins. I suggest you inform your GP unless he is already aware of these facts and stops prescribing them. My husband was prescribed statins and suffered pains down his legs, into his feet and feeling totally unwell. When I came across the articles on statin, he read them and stopped taking them from one day to the next! never mind the weaning off stage, no, he stopped it there and then and carried on living without this pain. I did advise him on magnesium and he felt miles better with a much better cholesterol level. I take 3 magnesium 250mg caps a day and my cholesterol at my age is and has always been 4.5. Good luck. I've been looking for any information about lowering cholesterol. My sister prescribed statins by her doctor. So mineral magnesium is better than any medicines? How long it would take to feel any results from taking magnesium?

Hi mces0421, what is the relation between the magnesium and cholesterol; magnesium is essential for the transmition of the nerve impulses. 300 to 600 mg of magnesium daily would prevent spasms in the liver. In case this is the cause of your sisters hign cholesterol level, I would advise to take 300 mg of Mg in form of tablets and the rest - by eating green colored vegetables and fruits. there is onother point. Absorption of the magnesium. if the intestines are damaged they wouldn't absorb the magnesium. so even eating green veges and take Mg it wouldn't work.
Taking magnesium for 2 weeks will make a difference if this is the case. It wouldn't low the cholesterol, it doesn't work as quickly, but if she has some spasms (legs, arms) and they are gone, this is a symptom for low magnesium level and maybe gradually her cholest. level will get to normal.
usually it is more complicated. there are involved hormones, diet etc.
good luck
