My late husband was prescribed statins to help lower his cholesterol. He suffered skeletol and muscular pain all down his legs and elsewhere. He felt miserable with it and after I passed him an article I received from the US on statin he came of this drug immediately and the discomfort went. In order to get his cholesterol down I advised him to take 3 caps of Magnesium 250mg which helped. Magnesium is the cheapest and by doctors most ignored mineral. You should take it acc. to your height and weight in a ratio of 1:2 with calcium. It is also supposed to interrupt the transport of calcium to the brain i.e. stopping you from clogging up brain cells, lol. Ingridl

You should also take Omega-3 (Fish Oil) capsules. My cardiologist and health sites I read recommend this as one of the first lines of defense. I also follow the Linus Pauling regimen for cholesterol.

You must talk to a specialist before going for any medicine as such things may work good for one but not for all. To lower the cholesterol level, what I can suggest is do regular workouts and stay away from all fatty stuff.

I too was prescribed a statin for high cholesterol. It was CRESTOR 20mg. I have been taking it for about eight months. Earlier this week I read about the side effects that are often caused by statins. I have had severe pains in my calf muscles so that it became almost impossible to walk, let alone climb stairs. I have also developed a nasty skin rash on the lower part of both my legs. Two days ago I stopped taking the statin and have bought from my pharmacist a natural drug . It is made from Red yeast rice and Coenzyme Q10. It is said to be developed from ancient Chinese remedies. It is too early to say what effect it will really have on my cholesterol level but having stopped the statin for two days now my leg pains that had become persistent have now all gone. I will be discussing the situation with my doctor within the next few days. Let us hope that the new natural remedy works.
