How to alleviate pain caused by osteoarthritis of the knee
Exercise may aggravate pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, but it doesn't contribute to the development of this serious knee problem.
That's the conclusion of a recent study in which Boston University School of Medicine researchers from the US examined nearly 1,300 subjects over a 10-year period. The Boston study, reported last month in Arthritis Care & Research, is confirmed by similar research from the Netherlands that found no link between physical activities, such as jogging or walking, and knee OA development.
But if your knees are in pain when you workout, there are a couple of alternative treatments that may ease the problem and put you back on track.
