Superoxide Dismutase: The Remarkable New Formula That Helps Your Body Fight Serious Conditions Like Rheumatoid Arthritis
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is a potent anti-inflammatory and one of the most powerful naturally-occurring antioxidants in your body. It is so effective that doctors routinely administer it as an injection to help cancer patients recover from radiation therapy, and to cardiac patients to avoid further heart damage.
In addition, its anti-inflammatory properties mean that it is able to provide much-needed relief from the debilitating symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
Unfortunately, your body's own production of Superoxide dismutase (SOD) peaks as early as the age of 10, after which time your levels begin to decline by about 15 per cent per decade. Although Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is also present in certain foods, including cabbage, broccoli, wheat and barley grasses, it is difficult to boost your levels through diet alone.
Nutritionists have warned that supplementation can be equally as ineffective too. This is because Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is broken down during the digestive process so your body is unable to utilise it properly.
Now, a new supplement has finally been developed which has overcome this barrier - so you can successfully augment your body's supply of Superoxide dismutase (SOD). In doing so, you will enhance your body's defence against arthritis, cancer, stroke, heart attack, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and ageing in general.
Boosting your levels of Superoxide dismutase (SOD) can help prevent age-related damage
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an enzyme that neutralises molecules of superoxide, a common and extremely destructive free radical. By mopping up superoxide and stopping it from damaging healthy cells, Superoxide dismutase (SOD) prevents inflammation and stops the cellular breakdown that contributes to age-related degeneration of muscles and organs.
'Old age is not old age. It is oxidative damage. It is your body failing to repair itself,' according to Dr Robert Doughton, from Portland, Oregon, who uses a combination of conventional and alternative therapies in his practice, including Superoxide dismutase (SOD).
Dr Doughton is particularly excited by research led by Dr Peter Rothschild for SmithKline BioScience in Honolulu, who tested the impact of the new Superoxide dismutase (SOD) supplement on ten individuals, aged 59 to 76. The supplement - Natural Dismutase Compound manufactured by BioMed Foods of California - is made from wheat grass which has been biologically engineered to have a high Superoxide dismutase (SOD) content.
The subjects took six capsules one hour before eating each morning for two weeks (to build up a loading dose), then reduced their dose to three tablets each morning for the following two weeks. Blood samples drawn before and after the experiment showed that subjects' Superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels increased 230 per cent on average. (The percentage increase in each individual ranged from 32 per cent to 730 per cent).
Specially formulated to avoid breakdown in the acid environment of your stomach
According to Dr Doughton, there are two reasons why Natural Dismutase Compound is so effective:
First, the supplement contains a huge dosage of Superoxide dismutase (SOD) - 1.6 million units per capsule. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) preparations currently on the market typically contain just 400 units.
Second, Natural Dismutase capsules are enterically coated, meaning they are treated so that they pass through your stomach unaltered and disintegrate in your intestines, thus delivering a bigger dose of Superoxide dismutase (SOD) to your bloodstream.
Marked improvements in RA symptoms in under four weeks
Dr Doughton has been recommending the supplement to patients (and using it himself) with successful results. He says some of his rheumatoid arthritis patients who have tried Natural Dismutase have begun to experience pain relief and improved range of motion within three to four weeks of beginning supplementation.
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) may also offer hope for 'untreatable' Lou Gehrig's disease or familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Due to a genetic defect, people with ALS stop producing Superoxide dismutase (SOD) altogether - a situation that accelerates free radical damage and results in the rapid destruction of motor neurons.
In a process that has been described as 'galloping old age,' ALS weakens the muscles of sufferers; impedes use of their hands, arms, and legs; and makes it difficult for them to swallow or even breathe. Although a few people manage the disease long-term (such as British physicist Stephen Hawking), approximately half of all ALS sufferers die within three to five years of diagnosis.
Researchers have not yet determined if supplementing with Superoxide dismutase (SOD) can prevent the destruction of neurons in ALS patients. However, Dr. Doughton, is now developing a clinical trial to see if Natural Dismutase Compound can slow physical deterioration in people with early stage, familial ALS.
What to take to boost your Superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels
BioMed scientists recommend that individuals take six capsules of Natural Dismutase each morning for two weeks, then reduce the dosage to three capsules each morning. They also advise drinking eight glasses of water per day during the course of treatment.
Warning: The supplement is not recommended for people who suffer from wheat allergies or serious morning nausea. Always consult your doctor before starting a new supplement.
