Swine Flu: Are You Playing Russian Roulette With Your Health?
Date: 04/10/11
Keywords: H1N1 flu virus, Tamiflu, World Health Organisation (WHO), adverse side effects, Cold and Flu, respiratory infection, Swine Flu, Vaccination
Given all the misinformation and conflicting reports about Swine Flu, and flu in general, that government agencies have bombarded Joe Public with over the past few years, tt's hardly surprising that many people are confused at the moment,
In December 2010, the media circus erupted once again with headlines claiming that Swine Flu was returning with a vengeance, after the pandemic threat of 2009. To add to our confusion, it was reported that Swine Flu actually ended up saving lives rather than costing them... Jumping from being a pandemic in 2009 to being a life saver in 2010 is a massive leap!
You must've read that headline somewhere before, right?
Perhaps back in 2009, when the fast-tracked Swine Flu
vaccine was launched onto the public in a global mass-
vaccination campaign?
Well, it seems that the public (and some health professionals) have not changed their minds about the controversy surrounding the flu jab. So far this season, flu vaccination rates have shown that fewer people are having the jab than last year. Figures show that only one in ten frontline healthcare staff who have been offered the jab have had it.
Russian roulette
When I switched on the news yesterday morning, it came as no surprise that government experts are urging those eligible for the vaccine to get their flu jab as soon as possible. It's the same old story: Those over 65, pregnant or with a compromised immune system must step to the front of the line!
In fact, Professor David Salisbury, director of Immunisation at the Department of Health (DoH) boldly stated that those who are not getting the flu jab this year, are playing Russian roulette with their lives!
That's a pretty strong message and one that would certainly scare a lot of people into getting vaccinated... and that's exactly what Prof Salisbury and his colleagues want.
Fair enough, we've had a spate of unseasonably hot weather the past few days and none of us have thought about winter or the flu as a result. However, there appears to be a lot more behind people's caution when it comes to getting the flu jab...
Confusion sets in
This is hardly surprising given all the misinformation and conflicting reports about Swine Flu, and flu in general, that government agencies have bombarded Joe Public with over the past few years.

To add to our confusion, it was reported that Swine Flu actually ended up saving lives rather than costing them... Jumping from being a pandemic in 2009 to being a life saver in 2010 is a massive leap!
Back then, Prof John Oxford, Director of Retroscreen Virology, in London, explained that since H1N1 was such a strong virus, it pushed out 'normal' influenza viruses that usually kill people. As a result, the population was far less at risk of being killed by normal flu viruses and they weren't killed by Swine Flu since they had some built-up immunity...
If that was the case in 2010, then surely it must also be the case for 2011. Or am I missing some finer details? Or, could it perhaps be that Swine Flu was a much weaker virus than the mainstream made it out to be..? Again, I'm just asking...
However, the most confusing bit for me is Prof Salisbury's recent claim that this year's flu vaccine is an ordinary seasonal flu jab, which will protect against three types of flu, including Swine Flu. Hang on! Swine Flu is NOT an ordinary flu... it's stronger and more deadly, right? And since the H1N1 vaccine is included in this year's jab, it can't be an 'ordinary flu vaccine'... Instead, it certainly must be the same 3-in-1 vaccine that was rolled out last year!
This brings me to another point: Safety and ethics! The H1N1 vaccines were all fast-tracked. At the time, a leading UK newspaper reported that regulators could approve the Swine Flu vaccine in just five days! A few months later, the whole Swine Flu debacle came under serious scrutiny which led to an investigation by The Council of Europe (covering 47 European countries).
In fact, Dr Wolfgang Wodarg, who led the investigation, said that Swine Flu was a mild flu - and a false pandemic. He added that a group of people at the World Health Organisation (WHO), who were very closely associated with the pharmaceutical industry, used Swine Flu to promote their patented drugs and vaccines. Finally, he added that pharmaceutical companies influenced scientists and official agencies, responsible for public health standards, to alarm governments worldwide.
In his report Dr. Wodarg also said: "The vaccines were developed too quickly. Some ingredients were insufficiently tested."
In September 2010, the National Coalition of Organized Women (NCOW), presented a report to the Vaccine Risk and Assessment Working Group (VRAW) stating that as many as 3,587 cases of either miscarriages or still births have been reported by women who received the vaccine whilst pregnant. Despite these concerns, the Swine Flu vaccine has been added to the seasonal flu vaccine (now called the 'ordinary flu vaccine' remember)... Still, no study has been published to reassure the public of its safety!
It most certainly is a game of Russian roulette. Based on the misinformation given to the public by government agencies and the controversies still surrounding flu vaccines, it is one many people (including myself) are not prepared to play!
