Many of us have experienced the after-effects of too much sun exposure, or that fussy, puffy and spacey feeling when you get off a long-haul flight. Even worse, the sickening, excruciating light headedness accompanied by the cramps of ‘traveller’s tummy’, can put a damper on any holiday...

Here at the Daily Health, we’ve uncovered three holiday remedies that can help prevent your long-anticipated holiday from turning in to a nightmare.

Protect your skin from sun-related damage

Even though being out in the sun helps to increase your vitamin D levels, sensible management of sun exposure is a must. Besides premature skin ageing and suppressing your immune system, over-exposure to the sun remains the number one cause of skin cancer.

This is where a new formula called VitaCell can help – it contains a combination of nutrients and plant extracts that have been proven to maintain skin health, especially during periods of excessive sun exposure.

VitaCell contains the following ingredients:

* lycopene and beta-carotene – antioxidants known as carotenoids which play a role in reducing skin sensitivity to UV radiation;
* vitamins C and E, selenium and green tea which are all potent antioxidants;
* zinc, which supports skin growth and repair;
* and beta1, 3 glucan, limonene and curcumin noted for their immune-supportive properties.

Recently the charity Cancer Research UK recommended that short spells of exposure to the sun when it is at its highest, without sunscreen, is best. This turn-around on their previous recommendation, reflects concern that current sunbathing recommendations are unnecessarily restrictive and are leading to low levels of vitamin D... Something we’ve been arguing for a long time now. Previously, the charity advised the public to spend between 11am and 3pm in the shade, and to cover their skin with clothing, hats and sunscreen if out.

As much as the charity now recommends that we enjoy the sun whilst it’s out, be aware that VitaCell is not a replacement for other forms of sun protection.

Contraindications: VitaCell is not suitable for individuals taking anti-blood clotting medication such as Warfarin, Heparin, Coumarin or Aspirin. This product should also be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The natural remedy for jet lag – approved by NASA!

Studies show that around nine out of 10 long-haul travellers suffer from jet lag, including many experienced air-crew. Symptoms include exhaustion, poor concentration and often, chronic insomnia. Many travellers report feeling desperately tired but, frustratingly, are still unable to sleep.

Thanks to a breakthrough discovery by the world-renowned Austrian biomedical researcher, Dr Georg Birkmayer, there is finally an effective, natural solution to combating jet lag. It works by harnessing the body’s own active re-energising source — (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, with high- energy hydrogen) NADH, also known as Coenzyme 1, and has been shown to significantly relieve drowsiness, restore alertness and energy levels, as well as boosting stamina and endurance.

In a recent clinical study, aviation and NASA space researchers investigated the effectiveness of NADH as a jet lag remedy. They used a quick-acting formulation of Dr Birkmayer, available under the brand name ENADAlert.

The 35 participants in the study travelled on long distance “red eye” flights across the US, spanning four time zones. On arrival, they were randomly given either a 20mg tablet of NADH, or an identical placebo tablet.

Ninety minutes later, the participants were subjected to numerous computerised tests, including one used for the medical certification of pilots. These were designed to assess changes in brain function, mood and sleepiness. Testing was then repeated five hours later. The ENADAlert group significantly outperformed the placebo group on tests of thinking and skilled motor activity.

Arrive at your travel destination feeling refreshed and energised, by taking ENADAlert, just before, or, on arrival in a new time zone. It takes effect within about an hour to ninety minutes, and helps boost your natural performance for three to five hours afterwards. By relieving drowsiness and restoring mental alertness, it enables you to re-establish a normal sleeping and waking pattern on arrival – allowing you to enjoy your holiday.

The brand new remedy that can help banish the symptoms of travellers’ diarrhoea

Travellers’ diarrhoea is an unpleasant reality for millions of travellers each year and can easily ruin a long- anticipated holiday, as you become a virtual prisoner in your hotel room… not daring to venture too far from the bathroom.

Now a specially-designed prebiotic supplement, can end the misery of travellers’ diarrhoea for good, according to the results of newly published research.

Bimuno is the result of eight years of intensive research headed by the Professor of Food Microbiology at the University of Reading, Professor Glenn Gibson – a highly regarded specialist in the field of prebiotics. Ginson and his fellow researchers identified the most effective natural food for the beneficial bacteria of the gut. As a result of their work, Bimuno has been specifically designed to be the preferred food of the ‘good’ immune-boosting bifidobacteria, and because of this it is superior to many other prebiotics currently on the market.

The reason Bimuno is believed to be so effective at preventing diarrhoea is because it helps to promote ‘good’ bacteria and strengthen immune defences, in addition to preventing gastrointestinal pathogens like E. coli from becoming established.

The exciting findings of the latest research, published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, could open up new destinations to holidaymakers who have previously chosen ‘risk-free’ options closer to home, because of their tendency to suffer from travellers’ diarrhoea.

In those travellers taking Bimuno, 8 out of 10 had a diarrhoea-free trip; among those who did develop diarrhoea, the time that symptoms lasted was almost halved; and the incidence of stomach cramps, often associated with travellers’ diarrhoea, was significantly reduced

So, next time you plan a trip make sure you take Bimuno a week before and pack a supply in your suitcase. Not only does Bimuno act as a preventative it also offers an effective, drug-free way of shortening the duration of symptoms if you are unlucky enough to get diarrhoea.

All three products, VitaCell, ENADAlert and Bimuno, are available from specialist health food stores and online resources. Please consult with your own doctor before acting on any recommendations contained herein and check for any possible drug-interactions if you are on prescription medication.
