How Statin Drugs Can Change The Way Your Brain Works

Date: 27/05/11

You can listen to your doctor and take statin drugs. Sure you’ll lower your cholesterol levels, but chances are you’ll end up suffering from terrible side effects like rhabdomyolysis — a life-threatening condition that destroys a large amount of muscle tissue, and can cause kidney failure. Rhabdomyolysis occurs in approximately one in 10,000 patients taking statins... Now, Dr. Briffa also reveals how taking statins can affect the way your brain works and possibly cause depression...

So your doctor’s told you that you have high cholesterol... in fact, the way he describes it makes it sound as if you are harbouring some kind of dangerous enemy inside you.

Truth is, if you take to heart what your doctor tells you, you’ll probably end up getting the fright of your life... in addition to a prescription for cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.

This is exactly the outcome your doctor and the mainstream are aiming for. In their minds, cholesterol is public enemy number one and they won’t budge, despite of mounting evidence proving the exact opposite. Plus they’ll receive financial incentives to get your cholesterol down with statins.

The other side of the coin

In the scenario I’ve described above, you have one of two choices:

1. You can listen to your doctor and take your statins. Sure you’ll lower your cholesterol levels, but chances are you’ll end up suffering from terrible side effects like rhabdomyolysis — a life-threatening condition that destroys a large amount of muscle tissue, and can cause kidney failure. Rhabdomyolysis occurs in approximately one in 10,000 patients taking statins.

2. You can start doing a bit of research to find out about safe and effective alternative ways to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and protect your heart. Chances are you’ll be very surprised to find out the truth behind the cholesterol myth... and you’ll thank your lucky stars for not taking risky statin drugs.

The choice is yours

You may ask how it is possible that we can make these bold statements. After all, your doctor is supposed to act in your best interests. Whilst I am sure there are many doctors out there that really care about their patients, there are also those who are driven by Big Pharma incentives and that believe the only way to lower cholesterol, is by taking statin drugs.

Sadly, there’s too many of those around and if your doctor happens to be one of them, perhaps you should introduce him or her to our dedicated blog, The Cholesterol Truth. If he is really interested in protecting your health and doing the right thing for his patients, he’ll make the effort to see the other side of the coin.

Best yet, we have our own forward-thinking doctor on board, Dr. John Briffa, who is dedicated to helping us expose the great cholesterol con.

In this week’s post, Dr. Briffa specifically speaks about the important role cholesterol plays in proper brain function... and how lowering your cholesterol (with statin drugs or through your diet) can change both the structure and function of the serotonin receptors on nerve cells. As you can imagine, this has a dramatic effect on the brain and increases the risk of anxiety and depression tremendously!

Now ask yourself, is that something you knowingly want to do to yourself? Causing depression and anxiety whilst attempting to lower your cholesterol... Shouldn’t your doctor warn you about these risks before he writes out a prescription for these drugs?

There is so much to be said about the great cholesterol con. The link between neurological disorders (like depression) and low cholesterol is just one aspect that deserves your attention, especially if you are considering following your doctors advice.

Visit The Cholesterol Truth today and discover the real truth about cholesterol. Better yet, invite your doctor to see what we have to say and then consider all the options available to you, before you start taking dangerous drugs that may end up doing much more harm than good.
