Ezetimibe: The Drug You Don’t Want To Take As An Alternative To Statins
Date: 02/06/11

Let’s say your doctor has managed to convince you that your cholesterol is ‘dangerously’ high and you need to bring it down to the ridiculously low levels recommended by the mainstream... But, you’ve read what we have to say about the risks of taking statins and that’s why you’ve put your foot down with a firm ‘Thanks, but no thanks doc!’
Next thing you know, your doctor talks to you about another drug, called ezetimibe (the generic name for Ezetrol) as an alternative to taking statins... because come hell or high water, your cholesterol levels must come down! After all, cholesterol is public enemy number one... just in case you forgot!
Some of you may have seen our latest post on The Cholesterol Truth, explaining how the humble tomato can be as effective as statins in regulating cholesterol levels... best yet, tomatoes will definitely not give you the same side effects as statins — ranging from muscle pain to cancer.
This is what gets me the most! When it comes to Big Pharma’s dangerous drugs flooding the market, the side effects always seem to be swept under the carpet!

After all, cholesterol is public enemy number one... just in case you forgot!
Your doctor is so convincing that you decide to give this drug a go because, as he explains to you, ezetimibe works in a completely different way to statins by impairing the absorption of cholesterol from the gut.
Great!
No, no, no. Not so great!
By now we all know that the mainstream is very quick to warn that all drugs come with side effects. However, if you look at the list of side effects associated with ezetimibe, I have a feeling you’d be running for the hills... or would start looking for a different doctor with a more natural approach to maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.
Here’s what you can expect: diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headaches, pancreatitis, nausea, sinusitis, pharyngitis, viral infections, back pain, myopathy/rhabdomyolysis (muscle wastage similar to statins!), liver dysfunction, gallstones and inflammation of the gallbladder, fatigue, coughing, anaphylaxis, rash and erythema multiforme (an allergic skin reaction).
Worst still, most doctors prescribe ezetimibe in conjunction with statins! Can you imagine the side effects you’d suffer from taking this toxic cocktail!
In his latest post, Dr John Briffa, talks more about the risks involved when taking statins and ezetimibe together. I’m almost certain, if you read what he has to say, you’ll wonder why this drug is still allowed on the market.
