I can’t begin to imagine how disheartening it must be to walk into your doctor’s surgery, knowing you’re about to bang your head against a brick wall... Many of you have also expressed your frustration at failing to find a doctor who is prepared to listen to you... If there’s one man that’s fighting the good fight against the great cholesterol con and who still puts his patients' interests first, then it is Dr. Briffa.
When I asked the question, ‘Do you trust your
doctor?’, in a previous alert, I honestly did not expect such a big response...
Sadly, it appears that many of you feel let down by your doctors. I mean, you are discussing YOUR health with them and they are SUPPOSED to help, right? That’s what they are there for after all.
Head-banging and brick walls
Judging from your comments and emails, I can’t begin to imagine how disheartening it must be to walk into your doctor’s surgery, knowing you’re about to bang your head against a brick wall...
Here’s a few examples of what patients have to put up with:
It almost makes you wonder: What’s the point of going to your doctor in the first place?
Spark in the dark
Many of you have also expressed your frustration at failing to find a doctor who is prepared to listen to you... I wish I could physically help each and every one of you to find a forward-thinking doctor who is prepared to give you the time of day to discuss your health concerns, without the end-goal of pushing prescription pharmaceutical drugs into your hands. Unfortunately, this is not possible.
However, our daily e-alert, the Daily Health, is a very good source of information and may help you discover healthy and safe alternatives to what the mainstream has to offer... helping you make an informed choice when it comes to maintaining your health.
Our regular readers will also know that we’ve started a blog, The Cholesterol Truth, which is dedicated to debunking all the cholesterol myths the mainstream wants us to believe, and also to exposing the truth about side effect- ridden cholesterol-lowering drugs.
In order to make sure that we provide a service that you can trust, we’ve asked Dr. John Briffa to act as one of our contributing editors for The Cholesterol Truth... If there’s one man that’s fighting the good fight against the great cholesterol con and who still puts his patients' interests first, then it is Dr. Briffa.
This is what he wrote in his post on The Cholesterol Truth last week:
So whilst, we cannot personally help each and every one of you to find a doctor who will treat you like a person, instead of being dismissive and pushy, at least we can provide you with resources that provide you with other options...

“...I doubt if I have ever had more than about 8 or 9
minutes [with my doctor] — and my average appointment
time is more like 5 minutes.. we are treated just like
unimportant numbers, and even getting our favourite
doctor is nearly impossible at times...” — Jim via
email.
“...I started on 10 milligrams of statins at first then they urged 20 milligrams and soon up to 80 milligrams a day. At 10 milligrams I had bad calf pain and at 80 I could not walk at all from the pain. I have since refused to take any statin drug as I have no trust in them. My doctors get angry until I tell them these drugs lower coq10 levels in the heart which we need to survive and on that they shut up and walk out...” — Arthur, The Cholesterol Truth comment.
“...My GP has been trying to get me to take a statin, because he says I am in a high risk category of being a type 2 diabetic. Both my doctors acknowledges the side effects of statins and don’t disagree about free radicals and oxidation of cholesterol being key factors. They feel that mine is a genetic issue and statins are the answer and my Endo feels I need to take Welchol to fool my liver into producing bile instead of cholesterol. To date I have rejected both...” — Joseph, Cholesterol Truth comment.

“...medical treatment is a matter of personal choice too. I
don’t encourage anyone to automatically reject their
doctor’s advice out-of-hand, but there is room for some
healthy scepticism and self-advocacy in the doctor-patient
relationship too. Sometimes, individuals end up feeling
forced into taking matters into their own hands. And the
reality is they may be better off for it.”
