The Shocking Study Big Pharma Tried to Keep Under Wraps...
Date: 18/02/11
Keywords: American Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pfizer, Antibiotics, meningitis, Merck, Glaxo-Smith-Kline (GSK), Gardasil vaccine, Vaccination
In 1996, Nigeria suffered a meningitis epidemic of unprecedented scale. During this time Pfizer's doctors treated 200 children, half with Trovan (an experimental and unapproved antibiotic) and half with the best meningitis drug used in the US at the time, ceftriaxone.
Pfizer’s controversial and downright disgraceful experiment left 11 children dead and dozens disabled after receiving Trovan...
Next time your doctor hands you a prescription, ask him where the drug has been tested...
If he says Africa, India, Estonia, Romania or Tunisia, you should think twice about whether you really need to take the drug. If so, ask him for a generic alternative. You’ll soon understand why...
Children used as guinea pigs
Nigeria is not a country we often hear about, in fact, something major would have to happen in this West African country to spark international interest... which is probably why Pfizer thought they could get away with using Nigerian children as guinea pigs for experimental drugs!
Here’s how they executed their evil plan...
In 1996, Nigeria suffered a meningitis epidemic of unprecedented scale. During this time Pfizer's doctors treated 200 children, half with Trovan (an experimental and unapproved antibiotic) and half with the best meningitis drug used in the US at the time, ceftriaxone.
The Nigerian government didn’t approve this so-called ‘trial’ which therefore made testing the drug illegal... neither were they ever informed that children would be used on an experimental basis...
Now I don’t know about you, but to me that is clear exploitation of the vulnerable!
Pfizer’s controversial and downright disgraceful experiment left 11 children dead and dozens disabled after receiving Trovan...
The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) only approved Trovan two years later, in 1998... for use in adults only! However, after reports of liver failure, Trovan’s use was restricted to adult emergency care only.
In 1999, the European Union outright banned Trovan because of fears raised about liver toxicity... Clearly, this stuff must be pharmaceutical-grade poison of the worst degree!
Then in 2000, Pfizer was exposed for falsely backdating a fabricated letter from the Nigerian Ethics Committee, showing that they approved the research before the 1996 trial.
In 2007, Nigerian officials filed federal and civil lawsuits against Pfizer. The charges included murder and other criminal counts seeking almost $2 billion in compensation and damages.
Eventually in 2010, Pfizer came to an agreement with Nigerian officials that saw them only paying $75 million and all criminal charges were dropped against them.
It’s a wicked game they play
So hang on... These dirt bags killed 11 children and ended up paying a fraction of the original damages and walked away with a clean name... How on earth did that happen?
During their ‘negotiation’ process, Pfizer claimed that since the lawsuits and investigations carried on for nearly 14 years, they incurred tremendous costs, which made it ‘only fair’ to reduce the damages...
Only fair? Try telling that to the parents of the children who died!
It also turns out that Pfizer employed an investigator to dig around for evidence of corrupt practices by Nigeria's Attorney General to persuade him to drop the lawsuits...
As a result, at the beginning of 2010 the Nigerian Attorney General was removed from his post after a public smearing campaign... and voila, five months later, Pfizer agreed to the $75 million payout.
In a statement, the pharmaceutical giant said: "Pfizer denied any wrongdoing or liability in connection with the 1996 study. The company agreed to pay the legal fees and expenses incurred by the federal government associated with the Trovan litigation... As is common practice, the agreement was covered by a standard confidentiality clause agreed to by both parties."
These guys are very good in an awfully bad way!
Clearly, Pfizer is wholly commited to the corporate mantra of maximizing profits for their shareholders at any cost, including that of human lives... Unfotunately, Pfizer is not the only pharmacuetical company following this despicable corporate mantra...
The Pharma Monster is everywhere!
A recent investigative report, estimates that 6,485 clinical drug trials were conducted overseas, in 2008. The drugs that were tested were all designated for the US market. According to the US Inspector General's report, 80 per cent of the applications submitted to the FDA for new drugs, contained data from foreign clinical trials.
So there’s no way to know if these trials are run ethically and accurately, leaving very little room for accountability. Most of these trials are run by independent contractors (not academic researchers in universities and teaching hospitals) who recruit potential patients both in the US and overseas.
These independent contractors devise the rules for the clinical trials, conduct the trials themselves, prepare reports on the results, ghost-write technical articles for medical journals, and create promotional campaigns.
More often than not, these trials commit some ethical violation. For example, at least a dozen infants died while taking part in a clinical study, which tested a pneumonia vaccine in Argentina two years ago. The study was sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, and used children from poor families. According to the Argentine Federation of Health Professionals, the families were "pressured and forced into signing consent forms."
More recently, the Indian government suspended Merck's Gardasil (cervical cancer vaccine) study, after they discovered that four of the young participants had died, and more than 120 girls suffered severe adverse reactions.
These two examples are just the tip of the iceberg... If one looks at what Pfizer did in Nigeria, it appears that Big Pharma tends to enlist unsuspecting human guinea pigs in their experiments. In fact, this seems to be more the rule than the exception...
Makes you feel that all of us are somehow part of a massive human experiment.
