New Cure For MRSA? Don't hold your breath. . .
A new drug developed by British researchers could save 1,600 lives every year in the UK, claim the manufacturers.
Trials of the XF-73 bacteriocide, which is applied as a nasal gel, showed that MRSA did not develop resistance to the compound despite being exposed to it 55 times.
It will take another 3 years before the drug is available, but its makers claim that it will be a “fundamental breakthrough” in the fight against MRSA - although there was no mention of its effectiveness against other ‘super’ strains of bacteria.
Presumably the manufacturers have high expectations that at least some of the tens of millions of pounds spent by the NHS on procedures to eliminate MRSA in hospitals would now be spent on their new ‘wonder’ drug instead.
Now, call me old-fashioned, but to my mind there are fundamental failings in the NHS that need putting right first before we set off on another wild goose chase, namely :
- Persuading doctors and nursing staff that they really should wash their hands properly and ESPECIALLY after examining or tending to EACH patient. If my 5 year-old daughter can do it, so can they!
- Ensuring that surgical instruments and equipment are COMPLETELY sterilised. It’s a common practice in operating theatres these days for surgeons to order TWO sets of instruments for every operation – because they can’t be certain that there will be enough sterile instruments in one set to complete the operation safely.
- Thorough and regular cleaning of wards by dedicated professionals – not a so-called ‘deep-clean’ every so often by a contract cleaning company that puts profit before human misery . And just in case NHS managers are in any doubt, this does NOT mean leaving surgical waste strewn around wards and corridors.
Regular readers will also be aware that I’ve been recommending the Nano Superbug Zapper - a revolutionary new device that is guaranteed to kill 99.99% of all ‘super’ strains of bacteria and viruses in just 10 seconds. There’s full information here
It’s a completely drug-free, non-toxic way to protect yourself from superbugs in ANY given situation – around the home the office or even when you’re out and about. This amazing pocket-size device even kills mold and dust mites.
But this isn’t the ONLY application for this little bug-buster. Far from it, in fact . . .
The Nano is proving a god-send particularly for anyone due a hospital stay where exposure to bacteria is at its worst.
As one of our members from Birmingham put it: “……the last thing I wanted was for Mum to pick up an infection while she was in for surgery. She took the Nano device and used it every day to scan over surfaces or anything she was given. She got a few funny looks, but thankfully NO infections! Thank you so much for alerting me to this little wonder.”
So, the choice is yours – wait 3 years to see if this ‘wonder’ drug is really as good as its makers claim . . .OR protect yourself and your family right now.
P.S. We’ve been using it around the office to disinfect keyboards and desktops. It’s a well-known fact that computer keyboards and work stations are fertile breeding grounds for harmful bacteria and viruses. (And just to think I often eat my lunch at my desk! Ugh!). A couple of quick zaps with the Nano and the job’s done . . .take a look at the full details now
