In recent years, mounting evidence has challenged the validity and safety of mammograms in breast cancer prevention... Now, a recent study by Southampton University researchers has found that too many screening programmes, including mammograms, lead to misdiagnosed results and the overtreatment of harmless breast lumps.

The mainstream simpletons are at it again... Their latest advice, which is based on the results of two recent studies, is aimed specifically at women past retirement age who want to live longer and reduce their risk of stroke: 1) Supplements will kill you! 2) Unlimited chocolate makes strokes go away! But before you bin your supplements and devour all the chocolate you can lay your hands on, let's take a step back to get a clear-eyed view at what's really going on here.

Last week it transpired that the UK government now plans to switch from using Cervarix to Gardasil from September 2012. Gardasil (manufactured by Merck) was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in 2006, and has since been used as a vaccine against the sexually transmitted Human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cervical cancer. Gardasil targets four strains of HPV — two responsible for cervical cancer and two causing the less serious condition of genital warts, while Cervarix protects against only two of the HPV strains. David Salisbury, the UK government's director of immunisation, said experts had weighed up both the cost and clinical benefits before deciding to switch to Gardasil.

Pfizer – the pharmaceutical giant – was in court again recently! This latest lawsuit was over Pfizer's hormone replacement therapy (HRT) drug, Prempro. With more and more controversies surrounding HRT, one cannot help but wonder how long it will take for it to be banned? The Healthier Life takes a look at effective and safe alternative remedies.

Urinary Tract Infections like cystitis are extremely common, particularly among women. It’s estimated that up to one in every five women will develop a urinary tract infection during their lifetime.

If it’s not the UK government ordering too much of the H1N1 vaccine (and the retrospective fact that the Swine Flu pandemic was blown out of proportion), then it is the effectiveness and safety of vaccines, like this one, that’s being questioned. Now the furore surrounding the H1N1 vaccine has died, yet another vaccine laden with controversy has reared its ugly head.

This time (and no surprise here) it’s the cervical cancer vaccine, Gardasil.

According to Prof. Richard Sharp, director of the Medical Research Council’s Human Reproductive Sciences Unit in Edinburgh, eight to twelve weeks in to pregnancy is crucial in determining reproductive problems later in life. The researchers believe that exposure to certain chemicals in cosmetics during pregnancy may affect sperm production in later

Research conducted by Tel Aviv University professor Itzhak Ofek and his colleagues is revealing a surprising array of benefits for cranberries. Long known to be helpful for the prevention of urinary tract infections, Dr Ofek has discovered that cranberry juice can help prevent cavities, fight influenza, and reduce the recurrence of gastric ulcers.

A member named James had me laughing over this e-mail, which I'm sure is quite sincere: 'Your focus on male sexual performance as we age is misguided. As a 50 year old male I'm delighted that everyone seems to be concerned about my ability to perform sexually well into my 70's. It has been my and every other male I have ever spoken to's opinion is their wives sexual desire is never anywhere near theirs. I have yet to encounter a male saying 'I just can't keep up with her. She's killing me!!' So let's put some focus on where every male I know would agree the focus should be, namely female desire. To encourage me to ingest supplements so I can be sexually frustrated well into my 70's seems cruel!'

You might be suffering from climacteric syndrome and not even know it probably because you call it something else.
