A review of the health benefits of vitamin D, conducted by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon and the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, concluded that people who took vitamin D supplements on a regular basis had a 7 per cent lower risk of death overall... But the benefits of vitamin D is much more far-reaching it also protects against cancer, diabetes and autism.


Lately, vitamin D is enjoying the media spotlight more and more – and rightfully so! In the past year we’ve reported on several ground-breaking studies proving vitamin D’s frontline-position in the fight against disease. And it’s disease-fighting benefits and immune-enhancing abilities don’t seem to stop...


With temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius in the UK this summer, I assume we all will get our fair dose of immune-enhancing vitamin D. Here at the Daily Health we’ve written a lot about the numerous benefits of this fat- soluble vitamin, from protecting against colds and flu to helping prevent certain types of cancer. It doesn’t stop there with this amazing vitamin, because vitamin D keeps on unveiling more and more benefits.


Researchers recently carried out a meta-analysis, in which they examined 18 previously published studies which had suggested that deficiencies in vitamin D lead to a higher risk of death from cancer, heart disease and diabetes.


Usually our thoughts dont turn to anti-ageing until at least the age of 40, and often not until were 50 or older.


Is folate the new 'it' vitamin? Suddenly, the summer of 2007 seems like the summer of folate, with multiple studies springing up left and right. There's no mystery as to why folate is getting this sort of attention. Along with other vitamins in the B group (most notably B-6 and B-12) folate has been shown to reduce levels of homocysteine, the amino acid that promotes plaque buildup in arteries. The result: Folate has earned a reputation for helping keep the heart healthy while also reducing risk of stroke and cognitive decline.


The next time your doctor asks about your supplement use, don't be surprised if he tells you that the antioxidant supplements you're taking may lead to an early demise.


Is vitamin C a placebo?
That question was the subject line of an e-mail I received from an HSI member named David who writes, 'NPR's Morning Edition ran a piece this morning on Vitamin C featuring a medical researcher from Consumer Reports.
